TBP Presents: The Hollow Veil

Long ago, before even the oldest kingdoms were raised from stone and soil, there stood a structure unlike any other. A sanctuary of scholars, who sought not treasure nor power, but knowledge of the unseen.

They whispered of reflections — worlds that sat alongside our own, hidden just beyond the veil. With runes and ritual, they built it. A portal. A doorway meant to glimpse what should never be touched. For a time, their hall shone with wonder. But when they gazed too long, the mirror gazed back.

What emerged was not light nor wisdom, but a tide of shadow. The land; cracked, the skies; bled, and the waters; black. The scholars were swallowed whole… and the hall fell silent. Centuries have passed. The once-proud structure withered into ruin, little more than a husk in our great world. Yet still, it waits — patient, restless. And when the veil thins, as it does each harvest of souls, the portal stirs once more.

If you are unfortunate enough to step through, you will not find a ruin. You will find the hall as it once stood — but surrounded by a reflection twisted beyond recognition. A mirrored realm, alive with corruption, hungry to be remade. This world is yours to shape… if you dare to claim it. But remember: mirrors never show only what is — they show what might have been… and what should never be.

THE HOLLOW VEIL EVENT

TBP’s “The Hollow Veil” – the event itself – is a Halloween event that allows for players to enter the new Hollowveil dimension; where they are encouraged to build creepy structures, spooky minigames, cursed altars, statues – whatever the heart desires. The event will last the entirety of October; with final submissions for the build competition closing October 31, at 11:59pm. Halloween has always held a special place in the heart of TBP players; as Season 1’s first event was the Halloween Town event – where players could compete in a build competition, walk through a redstone powered escape room and solve riddles to earn Halloween tokens.

Season 4’s Halloween event, The Hollow Veil, will be very similar. You are invited to build as many structures as you’d like in the Hollowveil dimension. At the end of the month, you can enter one of your builds to be judged as a part of the competition. We encourage players to step out of their comfort zones – whether it’s rebuilding a house from a spooky game or movie, building a giant jack-o’-lantern or a graveyard – the creativity is endless when paired with the brand new dimension.

Speaking of…

INTRODUCING THE HOLLOWVEIL DIMENSION

A chill wind stirs the ruins before you. Cracked stone arches claw at the sky, and the remains of some forgotten structure stand silent. Too silent. Whispers curl through the broken walls — not carried on the wind, but clawing from somewhere beyond. As you approach, the ruins shift, their shadows bending unnaturally.

You place your hand upon the ancient mechanism, the long-dead button shuddering with a pulse of energy. The world flickers. For a heartbeat, the ruin around you stands whole — towering spires, carved windows, banners swaying as though in an echo of forgotten time. Then the flicker becomes a blaze.

When your vision clears, you are no longer in the ruin…The structure is restored, but the air is wrong. The ground outside boils with magma veins. Blackstone ridges claw through the soil. Pools of pitch-dark water glimmer faintly with the haze of a blood-red sky. A reflection of the world all too familiar — but one long since corrupted.

Here, the ruin is whole, but the land itself is broken. Few dare to remain in this Mirror Realm, yet those who do may find strength — or madness — in its shadowed soil.
Will you shape this place, or will it consume you as it did those before?

Corrupted beyond recognition, those who step into the Hollowveil Dimension might not even realize it mirrors the Overworld – a twisted reflection of what once was.

Life has long since fled this place. No cows graze, no chickens roam — only the remnants of a world consumed. Veins of magma and skulk tear through the scarred stone, bleeding corruption across the land. The waters are dark and lifeless, the air heavy and still. There are no mobs – not even those that thrive without a heartbeat. No weather – not even rain. Only silence. A desolate wasteland beneath a black sky where every block feels wrong, unnatural, uneasy.

The only semblance of comfort? If you can even call it that…
The ruin you entered from… but it’s not a ruin here. Don’t stray too far now! The ruin is the only way to leave this dimension.

The Hollowveil dimension is made entirely of stone and deepslate; much like the overworld. However – unlike the overworld, there is no granite. No andesite, or diorite, or ore to find underground. Resources in this dimension are limited to the thin layer of corruption on the surface – where blocks that make one feel uneasy can be found. Magma, crying obsidian and skulk appear in cursed blotches as netherrack tears through the surface like a cursed vein.

Players can bring any block into this dimension and many of the existing Minecraft mechanics work here – like bonemealing a sapling or hatching a chicken from an egg. Players are encouraged to use any block they like in their builds; especially blocks from other dimensions. The Hollowveil dimension was programmed by The Baked Potatarium team. It’s not perfect – this is after all our first attempt at a custom dimension. But we do hope that you love it and that the event isn’t too underwhelming. We definitely have dropped some hints and talked of our excitement, after all.
